- The location of the feed is inaccessible to the cluster.
- The hive has water ingress or excessive condensation with no practical way to correct it.

Preparation
- Use dry, clean sugar with no odours.
- Place the sugar on sturdy food-grade paper or in a suitable feeder.
- Create controlled access for the bees without allowing the sugar to fall between the frames.
- Position it directly above the cluster.

Above the cluster, in contact with the area occupied by the bees.
Initial serving
Up to 1 kg, depending on the available space and the urgency.
Monitoring
Check whether the bees can reach the feed and whether there is enough moisture for them to use it without causing excessive condensation.
Frequency
Reassess stores as soon as conditions allow the hive to be opened.
