1:1 syrup for stimulation

A light syrup used when energy support is needed and a moderate nectar flow needs to be simulated, potentially encouraging activity and colony development.

Nutritional objective

Provides mainly carbohydrates when stores or nectar intake are insufficient.

Yield
1000 g
Ratio
Recommended when
  • There is little nectar coming in and the colony is in a condition to develop brood.
  • It is necessary to support nuclei, recently installed swarms, or developing colonies.
  • Temperatures allow the bees to collect and process liquid feed.
Avoid when
  • There are sufficient stores and a natural nectar flow.
  • Honey supers intended for harvest are in place.
  • Cold weather prevents the safe consumption of liquid feed.
Ingredients
  • g Refined white sugar
  • g Potable water (approximately 500 ml)
Preparation
  1. Heat the water without letting it boil.
  2. Remove it from the heat and gradually add the sugar.
  3. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  4. Allow it to cool to room temperature.
  5. Place it in a clean feeder suitable for the hive.
Application
Placement
Internal or top feeder, minimising access by other colonies.
Initial serving
Provide small quantities adjusted to consumption and to the management objective.
Monitoring
Regularly check consumption, fermentation, robbing, and brood development.
Frequency
Refill only when necessary; do not keep automatic feeding in place without reassessing the colony.
Warnings
  • It can stimulate brood rearing and quickly increase the colony's future needs.
  • If stimulation is interrupted before natural forage becomes available, the colony may be left without sufficient resources.
